As the
summer begins, we want to let you know that a new study has just
been released, published in Nature,
June 13, 2018, that for the first time, tracks the recent
ice loss from Antarctica. In a summary by New Scientist, June,
2018, the loss of 7 billion tonnes of ice per year was steady
until around 2012 and since then has more than TRIPLED to 33
billion tonnes per year. For scientists who plot trend curves,
this sudden jump in ice loss seems to indicate an ACCELERATING
loss, rather than a simple linear increase and such an
exponential increase is cause for alarm. Therefore, the outside
estimate of a two meter sea level increase by 2100 now seems more
realistic than ever and attention is directed to the IRI
ClimateChart based on the work by Dr. Jim Hansen, which
shows the historical variations in global temperature, sea level,
and CO2, which are closely correlated just as if they are part
of a single system that rises and falls together in
lockstep, yielding predictive information. Therefore, our Story
#4 may be our most important one this month.
On the
bright side, for those seeking a patent for the first time on any
topic, the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) now offers a “pro
bono” help desk. This type of service can be a life saver,
especially for those on a budget.
Once
again, Virgin Galactic is in the news for our Story #1 and #2.
Their Spaceplane is breaking records and we have the exciting
video. Their amazing Hyperloop is quite breathtaking to see in
another short video.
Since I
was a recent guest on the Coast
to Coast radio show with two million listeners, our books and
bioenergy products are selling at quite a pace. Our next
Conference on Future Energy www.cofe10.org or www.tesla.org is also attracting more
registrations. Hope you can take advantage of this August
opportunity to see live presentations on new energy, propulsion,
and bioenergy. Our Story #3 was picked for the hundreds of new
customers who like our PEMF devices. It may be the best and most
comprehensive article on the science of pulsed electromagnetic (PEMF) therapy . It also answers a lot of
common questions with great explanations and peer-reviewed journal
article references for health practitioners who never learn
bioelectromagnetics in medical school.
Story #4
shows how most of the world is fortunately ignoring the backward,
regressive energy policies of the United States and instead,
trending toward at least 50% renewables by 2050. Of course, we
cannot help but mention the Related Article by Stanford professor
Mark Jacobsen who as a roadmap for 139 countries to reach 100%
renewables in the same time frame, published in 2017 with a short
three minute lecture video on YouTube explaining his graph
Story #5
is a nice technical article that reveals a new discovery about
how semi-metals can convert heat into electric power, in the
presence of a magnetic field.

1) Virgin Galactic Spaceplane Record Breaking Flight
|
|
Virgin Galactic Spaceplane hits new Heights
Virgin
Galactic has shown the first firing of its spaceplane's chemical
rocket engine was no fluke, following last month's effort with
another successful outing in California. The latest test flight
took the tourist-carrying space vehicle a little closer to space,
literally and figuratively, with engineers now poring over data
with an eye to the next round of testing.

2) Hyperloop The Future of High Speed Travel
|
|
|
Anita
Sengupta believes that high-speed tube travel via Hyperloop is
surprisingly similar to space travel, and she should know. As the
lead systems engineer involved withparachute deployment of the
Mars rover, she sent us where no one had gone before. Now, as the
Senior Vice President of Systems Engineering at Virgin Hyperloop
One, Sengupta is bringing space travel down to earth, something
she says is “inspired by science fiction, but now it’s science
fact.” The tubes create a low pressure environment that almost
completely cuts out drag. Another key feature of this new form of
travel is the motor, which will allow Hyperloop to completely
change the way we travel. Picture a straightened out version of a
conventional rotary motor. “It's called a linear electric motor
and what that means is that you have a rotor and a stator, but
they're actually stretched out so one portion is on the underside
of our vehicle, which we call the pod, and the other side is on
the bottom of the track,” Sengupta described.

3) The Science of PEMF Therapy and How it Fixes Pain
|
|
|
Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields heal tissues and bone
and stimulate organs
|
PEMF
therapy uses bursts of low-level electromagnetic radiation to heal
damaged tissues and bone, to relieve injury-related pain, and even
to stimulate organs. The idea is that pulses at low frequencies
will pass through the skin and penetrate deep into muscle, bones,
tendons, and even organs to activate the cell’s energy and
encourage its natural repair mechanisms. PEMF is catching on as a
non-invasive way to approach injuries, chronic pain, and even
chronic conditions like depression and diabetes.

4) World Trending to hit 50% renewables by 2050
|
|
|
Bloomberg
New Energy Finance released a new report this week that estimates how
electricity generation will change out to 2050. The clean energy
analysis firm estimates that in a mere 33 years, the world will
generate almost 50 percent of its electricity from renewable
energy, and coal will make up just 11 percent of the total
electricity mix.

5) Topological Semi-metals Go Thermoelectric
|
|
Strong Magnetic Fields help Thermoelectrics harvest
heat
When
topological nodal semimetals are placed in a strong magnetic field,
they become very good at converting heat current into electric
power. That’s the new result from researchers at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, who say that the efficiency of these
materials in fact becomes much higher than the upper limits known
to exist for any other class of thermoelectric material known
today.
